Campaigning against Ma Chao
The story is adapted from the related chapters of the
Chinese classic novel
Romance of Three
Kingdoms. Ma Chao (A.D.176 - 222) was a famous general living in the Eastern Han Dynasty
and Three Kingdoms era of China. The campaign happened before he threw himself into the lap of the Kingdom of
Shu, one of Three Kingdoms.
After Ma Chao was born down by the army of Cao Cao (A.D.155 - 220), Prime Minister of the Eastern
Han Dynasty (A.D.25 - 220). He went to the apanage of Zhang Lu, a famous general of the Eastern Han Dynasty, for shelter, and then, Zhang Lu ordered Ma Chao to assault Pass Jiameng
for containing the army of Liu Bei (A.D.162 - 233), later the ruler of the Kingdom of Shu and succoring
Liu Zhang (? - A.D.219), the praetor of Yizhou.
Zhuge Liang (A.D.181 - 234), the counselor of Liu Bei, applied the method of
goading Zhang Fei (? - AD 221), general and blood brother of
Liu Bei into campaign against Ma Chao. Therefore Zhang Fei and Ma Chao fought in Pass Jiameng face to face, day after night, but no one could get
victory finally.
Liu Bei admired the intrepid spirit of Ma Chao, and went down the city gate to debarrass them before the pretty pass. Finally, Ma
Chao was touched and threw himself into the lap of Liu Bei. Both Zhang Fei and Ma Chao were listed in the top five generals under Liu Bei's command.
