Caution: Do not use if pregnant. Common-Used Chinese Medicinal Herbs: Rhizoma GastrodiaeSource: The tuber of Gastrodia elata Bl. (Orchidaceae) symbiosis with Armillaria mellea (Vahl ex. Fr.) Quel. (Fungi), boiled with water or steamed and dried after the cortex is discarded.Characteristics: The tuber appearing as long oval in shape, circular joints with spotted root scars over the cortex and a "parrot-beak" like bud at the top of the tuber or stem base. On the cross section, the cutin appears translucent without any fibre. Sweet in taste, mild in nature and attributive to liver channel. Indication: - Calm the liver-wind: For syndrome of liver-wind stirring inside, such as infantile convulsion, tetanus, epilepsy, as well as dizziness and headache due to sthenia of liver-yang or the attack of wind-phlegm. Recently it is also used for the treatment of neurasthenia, nervous headacke and hypertension.

Pharmacological Action: - Its active component gastrodin exerts as sedative, hypnotic and antispasmodic.
