The classical Chinese language was extremely terse and epigrammatic; the authors have therefore chosen translations in plain words which offer the greatest chance of being understood both by Chinese and non-Chinese readers. The authors have striven to make explanations of technical terms in accord with the original concepts of traditional Chinese medicine. It is useful for medical scholars, translators, and the teachers and students in medical colleges as they study traditional Chinese medicine materia medica and western medicine's workers, translators, teachers and students in medical college.The arrangement of the entries: The first item is the headword in Chinese, attached with the Chinese phonetic alphabets, then the Chinese explanations. The corresponding terms in English are printed in bold Roman type, followed by the English explanations. The various meanings of a Chinese headword are marked off by Arabic numerals, with English corresponding terms and explanations; in case of an entry with only one corresponding term, but with more than one meaning, then each meaning is introduced by Arabic numerals with parentheses. The Chinese headwords are arranged by the numbers of strokes of a Chinese character and the order of strokes observed in calligraphy. Contents
