Li-shu ("official script," or "clerical script," or "chancery script") is a representative script of the Han dynasty. The most survival famous works are inscriptions on the stele or precipice, "Shi Chen Bei," "Zhang-qian-bei," "Li-qi-bei," "Shi-men song," "Xi Xia Song," etc.

Learning a lesson from the fall of the Qin, Han rulers ran the country by adopting Confucianism, a philosophy centered on idealistic benevolence. The official veneration of Confucius lent the fact that almost half of surviving Han steles, including this one, are from Shandong, his home state. Liqi Bei (engraved 156 AD) set up to honor Han Chi for making donation of ritual implements to a Confucian temple.

The inscription shows typical features of clerical style. Its flat characters are referred to the shape of turtle shell, and its forceful right-falling strokes to the shape of silkworm head and swallow tail. Its stroke technique progressed into a sophisticated framework, which was then adopted by regular script, and its brushwork is at once disciplined and unconstrained, by which it is held the best example of clerical writing.

《礼器碑》，全名《汉鲁相韩敕造孔庙礼器碑》，又名《韩敕碑》、《修孔子庙器碑》。东汉永寿二年（一五六）刻。隶书十六行，行书三十六字，碑阴碑侧均完好。现存山东曲阜孔庙，与《乙瑛》、《史晨》合称庙堂三巨制。

此碑自宋至今著录最多，是一件书法艺术性很高的作品，历来被推为隶书极则。书风细劲雄健，端严而峻逸，方整秀丽兼而有之。碑之后半部及碑阴是其最精彩部分。艺术价值极高。一向被认为是汉碑中精典之作。

主讲人邓宝剑现在北京师范大学艺术与传媒学院做博士后研究工作，主要研究方向为中国古代文艺理论及书法美学。在《书法研究》、《东南学术》、《书法报》、《书法导报》等报刊发表书法论文多篇。在大学期间曾担任中国人民大学书画社社长，书画作品曾获北京大学“凤凰杯”全国大学生书画大赛银奖。现为中国书法家协会会员。
