Ingredients: Sickle-pod senna (seed), Uncaria rhynchophylla (stem), Achyranthes (root), Gastrodia (rhizome), Gardenia (fruit), Chinese skullcap (root), Eucommia (stem bark), Siberian motherwort (above ground parts), Loranthus (twig and leaf), Fo-ti (dried root tuber), Poria (sclerotium)
Actions: Suppresses hyperactivity of liver Yang.
Main indications: Use for hyperactivity of liver yang, upward attack of liver wind, headache, vertigo, and insomnia, manifesting a red tongue with yellow coating and wiry pulse. Often used for hypertension and acute cerebrovascular
illness.*
Directions: Take 8 pills each time, 3 times a day.
Cautions: Don't use it if you are pregnant.
Notes: This modern preparation is based on a classical prescription, Tianma Gouteng Yin (Gastrodia and Uncaria Decoction), from Zabing Zhengzhi Xinyi (New Significance of Patterns and Treatments in Miscellaneous Diseases, the
best-known traditional prescription with gastrodia from the Qing Dynasty. This formula is used primarily for treatment of headaches and dizziness, mainly in cases of high blood pressure.

Source: The tuber of astrodia elata Bl. (Orchidaceae) symbiosis with Armillaria mellea (Vahl ex. Fr.) Quel. (Fungi), boiled with water or steamed and dried after the cortex is discarded.
Characteristics: The tuber appearing as long oval in shape, circular joints with spotted root scars over the cortex and a "parrot-beak" like bud at the top of the tuber or stem base. On the cross section, the cutin appears translucent
without any fibre. Sweet in taste, mild in nature and attributive to liver channel.
Indication:
1. Calm the liver-wind: For syndrome of liver-wind stirring inside, such as infantile convulsion, tetanus, epilepsy, as well as dizziness and headache due to asthenia of liver-yang or the attack of wind-phlegm. Recently it is also used for the treatment of neurasthenia, nervous headache and hypertension.
2. Expel wind evil and alleviate pain: For migraine, arthralgia due to wind-dampness type, numbness of the extremities, and general fatigue, etc.
Pharmacological Action:
Its active component gastrodin exerts as sedative, hypnotic and antispasmodic.
It may increase blood flow and decrease the peripheral resistance of blood vessels.
