This performance of Unicorn Purse by Zhang Huoding and Li Chongshan is to celebrate the 50th anniversary of China Peking Opera Theatre.

Story Synopsis

A wealthy family in Deng Zhou was marrying off the daughter, Xue Xianglin. To protect the daughter's life, the parents prepared a lot of properties for her. A local tradition was to have a large purse, called "unicorn-trapping purse", to accompany the bride, wishing that she would have powerful and promising sons. Miss Xue was in a sad mood for she would leave her mother soon. And the mother filled the purse with jewels to make her daughter happy.

When a sedan chair was carrying the bride on the way to her husband's home, it suddenly began to rain. The team went to the nearby Chun-Qiu Pagoda to avoid the rain. Miss Xue heard sobbing from the other bride, Zhao Shouzhen, at the pagoda. Miss Zhao was sad for her poverty and hard life in the future. Sitting in the sedan chair, Miss Xue wanted to help the poor girl. She gave Miss Zhao her only purse without leaving her name. Six years later Deng Zhou was flooded, Xue Xianglin was missed with her family, and floated to Lai Zhou. There she run into her old servant Hu who led her to the house of Lord Lou and served as a baby sitter. When she accompanied the boy and played with him, she saw the unicorn-trapping purse by chance in a stored building. She realized that the Lord's wife was the bride she helped.

剧情介绍
登州富豪女儿薛湘灵出嫁时，母亲按当地习俗给了她一个“锁麟囊”，取“早生贵子”之意，内中缀珠宝。
薛湘灵出嫁当天，中途遇雨，在春秋亭暂避；恰巧来了一乘破旧花轿，轿中的新娘赵守贞由于感到家道贫穷身世凄凉，不禁悲啼。薛湘灵问明情由，以锁麟囊相赠，雨止各去。六年后登州大水，薛湘灵和家人失散，漂流到莱州，遇见旧仆胡婆，引她到当地卢员外家。适卢家正为儿子天麟雇褓姆，薛湘灵得入府中，伴天麟玩耍，百感交集。天麟把球抛进一座小楼，逼湘灵去拾，湘灵上楼看见当年的锁麟囊，不觉感泣。
卢夫人原就是赵守贞，见状加以盘问，才知湘灵就是当年赠囊之人，改容礼敬，结为姐妹，并帮助她一家团聚。
