Song general Yang Yanzhao in the city dispatched his son Yang Zongbao to break through to the Capital for recourse. Mu Guiying took command of the reinforcements for Hong Zhou City. She operated her generals and troops, succeeded in ambushing the invading enemy soldiers and killed its commander in chief and raised the City from siege.  Liu Xiurong (1935-), a native of Beijing. At 12 she entered the Siwei Traditional Opera School and later transferred to China Traditional Opera Experimental School, where she got firsthand training of Wang Yaoqing. Later she offered herself as Shang Xiaoyun's pupil and was also instructed by Mei Lanfang, Xun Huisheng, Xiao Changhua, Ye Shenglan and Yan Huizhu. She learned a number of fine traditional plays during her training. Since graduation she has worked successively for the Experimental Beijing Opera Troupe of China Traditional Opera School, the Beijing Opera Theatre of Beijing and China Beijing Opera Theatre. Her voice is smooth and wide-ranged. With graceful make-up and exquisite acting, she is good at both civilian and martial roles. Her repertoire includes the White Snake, Diao Chan the Beauty, Sister Thirteen and modern piece a White Haired Girl in Sichuan. |
