The Chen style taiji quan falls into two categories - the old and new frames. The old frame was created by Chen Wangting himself. It had five routines which were also known as the 13-move boxing. Chen Wangting also developed a long-style boxing routine of 108 moves and a cannon boxing routine. It was then handed down to Chen Changxing and Chen Youben, boxers in the Chenjia Valley who were all proficient at the old frame. The present-day Chen style boxing boasts of the old routine, the cannon routine and the new routine. The Chen style taiji boxing is the oldest form, all the other styles of taiji quan having derived from it either directly or indirectly.
Chen-style Taiji Quan Old Frame II also called Cannon Boxing, stresses hardness with softness dwelling in. While practicing, you should complete with force and in quick succession such movements as stamping, applying your force, dodging away or jumping up. Your play should be full of noble aspiration and power. Exercise Requirement: let your hand lead your body, keeping your footsteps flexible and steady. Carry yourself with confidence. Take trample, split, elbow and push as the main movements with ward off, deflect, shove and press as subsidiary. You should play quickly, hard and fiercely.
A brief biography of Master Chen Zhenglei: Master Chen Zhenglei was born in the original place of Taichi ( Pinyin: Taijiquan) -Chen village, Henan province in May 1949, the 19th direct line successor of Chen-style Taichi, the president of Wenxian County Chen-style Taichi Research Society, the general adviser and head coach of Henan Chen Zhenglei Taichi Culture Co., Ltd, the vice-director of Henan Provincial Wushu Administration Center, Vice-president of Henan Wushu Association, national senior Wushu instructor, committee member of China National Wushu association, and association of State Physical Culture Science, and one of the "Top Ten Martial Arts Masters" of present day China.
