The Chen school of taijiquan is one of the major branches of wushu in China, and it is the origin of all the other forms of taijiquan. It is executed in a continuous and relaxed manner, with circular and extended movements. It requires that the mind be in command of the qi (the circulation of vital energy) which in turn activates the body, so as to gain the best effects and exercise both the internal and external parts of the body. This school of taijiquan can be used as a means of attack or defence, and the exercises help keep the body fit and is suitable for people in all the trades and professions.
Chen Style Taijiquan is divided into two parts. The first part contains illustrations for the first and second routines of attacking movements; the second part is the simplified taijiquan of the Chen school in 38 movements for beginners.
