A comprehensive quarterly digest and index of all quality Chinese publications in the archaeological and art history fields, designed to suit the needs of scholars, collectors, galleries, museums, and libraries. Published four times annually, each issue covers Chinese publications received and synopsized during the previous quarter.

This issue is in English, specially contributed to Qing Zhou Statues. In October 1996, the Qingzhou Municipal Museum discovered and excavated a hoard of Buddhist sculptures at a construction site to the southern side of the museum which was once the site of the historically famous Longxing Temple. The discovery and excavation of one of the largest and most significant hoards of Buddhist statues have been ever found in China, also disclosed the layout of the temple site itself. The numerous other temples and Buddhist finds in this area dated to the Southern and Northern Dynasties period, particularly in Zhucheng city where more than 300 pieces of Buddhist statuary were found. It is estimated that approximately 800 statues have already been found and archaeologists are confident that they will discover more - a new find of an unusual large Northern Wei stone Buddha, 1.8 meters high and weighing two tons, recently occurred in the Linzi region. On either side and to the rear of the central Buddha are 91 smaller Buddhas, and at the top are apsaras. The stele also bears an inscription of 369 characters which include a date equivalent to 522.
