Zhang Zongxiang (1882~1965) was a famous modern scholar from Haining, Zhejiang Province. Zhang took the post as the director of the Zhejiang Library, deputy director of Zhejiang Province Culture and History Research Institute, the third president of Xiling Seal-Making Society, vice-chairman of Zhejiang Branch of the Chinese Artists Association.
Zhang Zongxiang was best known for collecting rare books and emendating ancient books. He was good at writing poems and articles, and he was well versed in medicine, traditional dramas, literature, history, geography and calligraphy, wrote and published many books in variety of subjects. Zhang was good at calligraphy and painting. He was praised a leading magnate in the calligraphy circle thanks to his proficient in running-grass calligraphy. Zhang was also a good writer of poems and articles, so called "Number One Writer in South of the Yangtze River".

张宗祥（1882-1965），海宁硖石镇人，谱名思曾，字阆声，晚号冷斋，自署铁如意馆主。17岁时，因崇敬宋代抗元名将文天祥，故署名宗祥。是我国近现代著名学者、校勘学家、书法家。
张宗祥先生少有奇才，读书过目不忘，青少年时就读了大量书籍打下深厚基础。清光绪二十八年(1902年)举人。宣统二年(1910年)，赴京殿试成绩一等。曾先后担任过浙江高等学堂及浙江两浙师范学堂教员、北京大理推事兼清华学堂教员、教育部视学、京师图书馆主任、浙江省教育厅长、瓯海道尹、文澜阁《四库全书》保管委员会主任等职，解放后，历任浙江图书馆馆长、省文史馆副馆长、西冷印社社长、省政协常委、民革浙江省委常委、美协浙江分会副主席等职。张宗祥先生对我国民族文化教育事业所建树的功绩为世人称颂。
张宗祥精于书法，善绘画，并擅长校勘古籍，致力于搜抄善本、孤本，有“抄校古籍近万卷”之说，被众推为“文史巨擘”。校订注释出版的古籍有《国榷》、《说郛》、《罪惟录》、《越绝书》、《洛阳伽蓝记》等10余种。他主持补抄文澜阁《四库全书》，使之与湖山并存，厥功甚伟；他学识渊博，著述甚丰，于文史、书法、绘画、诗词、金石、戏曲、医学、考古、水利等都有不同的造诣；著有《不满砚斋誊稿集》、《游桂草》、《入川草》、《清代文学史》、《铁如意馆杂记》、《临症杂谈》、《医药浅说》、《本草简要方》等。晚年创作改编昆曲《十五贯》，神话剧《平飓母》、《卓文君》等。书法以行草见长，用笔起讫分明，书风倜傥俊逸，被誉为书坛泰斗，有“江南第一笔”之称。印有《冷僧书画集》，并有《临池随笔》、《书学源流论》、《论晋人书法》、《论书绝句》等书法论著。
